Your suggestion to make a nested style is what I tried earlier. I can see it flash the correct nested style but then it is overwritten with the original style. The only way I can get it to work right now is to click on the header after it is created and clear the added style so it reverts back to the nested style. Only problem with this is that it goes back when I update the headers.

You probably want to create a GREP Processor to either add the styling to part of the header or remove the styling from the other part.

Another option would be to apply a nested style to the header paragraph to apply the correct styling.

I have a head that looks like:

1.1<tab>Head

I am not using autonumbering in InDesign as I need the "1." to have a specific style which I've called "H1Num"" as a character style. This style has a large, colored character.

When I use PowerHeaders, the entire head is styled using the "H1Num" character style. Is there a way to force PowerHeaders to ignore the Character Style?
