Generally you want to place text from Word, rather than copy paste. The same for going the other direction. You should try to export as plain text or rtf.

Hi,

I'm working with Korean text that was supplied to me in MS Word docs. I can copy/paste it into InDesign CS5.5, but if I try to copy FROM InDesign and paste TO Word, I get some (seemingly) extra garbage characters. Would World Tools Pro remedy this? I have World Tools, but not Pro.

Thanks.
