What’s with back-save to earlier versions of InDesign?

Posted by: Harbs on: April 11th, 2011 | 34 Comments

InDesign can not open files saved by later versions of the application.

This has been a source of a lot of grumbling over the years. I’ve heard all kinds of silly theories as to why this is so — including one that Adobe does this on purpose to “force” you to upgrade. Conspiracy theories are exciting and everything, but there’s really no conspiracies related to InDesign…

Buttons to Layer Script

Posted by: Harbs on: March 31st, 2011 | 2 Comments

Earlier today Bob Levine wrote in a tweet that he needs a script to move all buttons to a “button layer”. I’m not sure exactly what Bob needed this for, but I can see where this could be useful in digital (magazine) publishing.

Fixed v 1.0 Mac Installers

Posted by: Harbs on: February 8th, 2011 | 6 Comments

We were made aware that there were some problems with a few of the latest Mac installers.

Due to an error during compiling the installers, some of the files installed were not correct. The affected products were: World Tools (not Pro), Power Headers, and Style Utilities. The related suites were also affected namely: the Publisher Suite and the World Publisher Suite Pro.

The installers have been fixed. If you have downloaded one of these products since the new website went live, please re-download it and reinstall.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to suggest subscribing to RSS on our announcements forum. We will be blogging about major updates in the future, but small changes and fixes will be posted on the forum.

Thanks for your support!

Product Compatibility

Posted by: G. Keys on: January 25th, 2011 | 8 Comments

We’ve worked very hard to make sure our products are compatible with as many versions of InDesign as possible. Until now, we’ve maintained compatibility with InDesign CS2 and in some cases InDesign CS.

Unfortunately this compatibility was stunting at times, and didn’t allow us to benefit from improvements in InDesign’s core technologies. There were a large number of improvements in CS3, and we have decided that to enable us to more effectively improve our products, we are dropping support for InDesign CS2 and earlier.

Effective now, all our plugins are compatible with InDesign CS3 and later. We hope to support CS3 for the foreseeable future, but since the release date of CS2 was nearly five years ago, we feel that this decision will benefit most of our users, and have a relatively small negative impact.

Thank you for your understanding.
